World Peace Flame Lights VJ Day Beacon in Kippax

On August16th 2025, a significant and historic moment took place in Kippax as the World Peace Flame was used to light the beacon at the War Memorial on VJ Day.

The ceremony was led by Kippax Parish Council and the King’s Representative for West Yorkshire, Kevin Sharp, marking a powerful act of remembrance and unity.

This occasion was especially meaningful as it was the first time the World Peace Flame had been used to light a beacon on such a monument. The moment symbolised a deep connection between remembrance and the ongoing commitment to peace – honouring the past while looking towards a more peaceful future.
