U.N. International Day of Peace
On 21 September 2025, the Garforth Peace Project marked the International Day of Peace with their annual commemoration at the Leeds World Peace Flame Monument.
This meaningful gathering brought together members of the local community alongside distinguished guests, including King’s Representative Dr Kuldip Bihari OBE DL, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Dan Cohen, and the Leeds Children’s Mayor, all of whom shared thoughtful and inspiring speeches.
The event also welcomed representatives from a range of peace and interfaith groups, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the day. Readings from school children across Leeds added a powerful and hopeful voice for the future, while music from the Garforth Ukulele Players and singers from the Garforth Community Choir created a warm and uplifting atmosphere.
Together, the event stood as a reminder of the importance of unity, dialogue, and continued commitment to peace—values at the very heart of the World Peace Flame.
